What is Neighbourhood ?
We live in our houses.
The area around our house is our neighbourhood .
People living in a neighbourhood are called neighbours
A neighbourhood has many places from where we get help in different ways, that make life easier for everyone.
Markets,post office,bank,police station , park , school etc are few places in our neighbourhood.
Let us study about few such places in detail.
Places in our Neighbourhood
A) Places for an Emergency
1) Police Station
The Police work in a police station.
A policeman help to maintain law and order . They catch thieves and put them in jail.
We need to dial 100 to call the police
Some policemen and policewomen control traffic and are called Traffic Police.
2) Fire Station
In case there is a fire, we can call up the fire station.
A fire station has firefighters and fire engines.
3) Hospital
Doctors examine us and Nurses takes care of us.
We buy medicines from a chemist's shop.

We buy many things of everyday use such as milk, vegetables, fruits, groceries,clothes etc , from the shops or big shopping malls.
A Shopkeepers sell things in the shop.
A grocer is a shopkeeper who sells foods such as flour , sugar , and tinned foods.
A Green Grocers sells fruit and vegetables.
5) Park
A park is a place where children play with their friends.
There are many swings, slides there in the park.
Many people go for a walk and also to relax in the park because the air is fresh and clean.
We must keep our park clean by throwing garbage in the garbage bins kept in the park.
6) School
Many people work in a school like principal, teacher, guard, driver, sweeper etc.
A teacher teaches students in the school.
7) Post Office
We buy stamps, envelopes and post card from the post office.
The post office helps us to send and receive letters and parcels . We post out letters in the post box.
8) Bank
Bank is a place where we keep our money and jewellery and other valuable things safe.
To keep out money in a bank we need a bank account.
We can withdraw and deposit money through an ATM machine.
9) Bus Stop
Buses help us to reach out destinations.
Our neighbourhood must be safe, clean and friendly place to live in. We must live together and help each other.
